Fenty Beauty's Stunna Lip Paint: The Perfect Red Lip?

Lord knows I love a good red lipstick.

Since Rihanna's much-anticipated makeup line launched in late 2017, it has been the focus of industry praise for their very inclusive range of shades (it was included in Time's 25 Best Inventions of 2017), and highly coveted by beauty enthusiasts and bloggers alike. Fenty Beauty is only going from strength to strength, with new launches of 'The Diamond Collection', and the 'Moroccan Spiced Palette'. I love a good hype train, so obviously, I had to grab a Stunna Lip Paint and give you my thoughts, as late as I am to this party.

Packaging and applicator

The packaging isn't like your standard liquid lipstick. In a chic hexagonal based (kind of) pyramid, the applicator and handle are made of plastic, and the actual container is made of glass. Unlike some lipsticks where the label covers the tube and can make it difficult to see the colour properly, the Stunna Lip Paint's glass makes the beautiful red as clear as day.

The applicator covers quite a large surface area, which I find doesn't help me in terms of accuracy. I have quite small lips and found it very easy to accidentally overline my lips. It holds so much product that it's also super easy to inadvertently put so much lipstick on that you have no chance in hell of it drying. Most of the time, I end up trying to squeeze some of it back in the container.

Wear

The Stunna Lip Paint claims to have a 12-hour matte wear, with one stroke intensity. Kat Von D's Outlaw is my go-to red lipstick, so Stunna has some pretty big shoes to fill. 

Sloppy application, but before roast dinner and cocktails

The consistency of the Stunna Lip Paint feels really unusual to me. Most matte liquid lipsticks retain a touch of creaminess, but this literally feels like you're applying a slightly watery paint. It takes a decent amount of time to dry, roughly around half an hour to dry fully. When it's on, it's weird in the fact that although you don't strictly feel like you're wearing lipstick, it does slowly suck most of the moisture out of my lips over the course of a few hours. It isn't terribly drying, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to touch up with a lip balm several times during the day.

Generally speaking, the wear is really great. I do find that it isn't completely transfer-proof, as I quite often find it leaving residue on glasses, my chin, and tissues. Having said that, when I've worn it, even if it has transferred quite a bit, it doesn't lose any of its intensity.  

At the end of the day

I did put the Stunna Lip Paint through its paces. At the launch of The Florist, it was subjected to numerous cocktails, and a hefty roast dinner and dessert. Around hour 7 (and after some pizza later that evening), I did find some feathering, bleeding and smudging around the edges. This isn't necessarily a negative because it's no mean feat for a lipstick to survive 7 hours of me stuffing my face and rubbing lip balm all over my face. At some point, something's got to give. You can't expect miracles from any lipstick.

Price

The Stunna Lip Paint clocks in at a cool £19 for 4ml of product. Major competitors including MAC's Retro Matte Liquid Lips are £18 for 5ml, and Kat Von D Beauty's Everlasting liquid lipsticks are £17 for 6.6ml of product, so it is on the expensive end of the scale considering you pay more for less product. 

Overall

Overall, I really do like the Stunna Lip Paint. It's long wearing, and the colour is intense and beautiful. It's not a big deal for me that it's not entirely transfer proof, because I try to be careful when I'm wearing lipstick anyway. I don't know if I think it's the perfect red lip, but it is definitely a contender!
